We are excited for you to join us at the YNPNNYC Holiday and 2020 Launch party! Our Board is working diligently to ensure that you have the tools that are needed to launch into 2020 and make it count more than ever. It is in this spirit that we are taking a moment of introspection to give you some words from board members about what 2020 means for us and how we are working together to build the YNPNNYC community to support you- the nonprofit and civic-minded professionals of 2020!
What are you doing to build a supportive community for nonprofit and civic-minded professionals in 2020?
The answers below reflect a few of the responses we gathered from our board members but we are also interested in your response. Post on social media with your response while tagging YNPNNYC and using #YNPNNYCHoliday to be entered into a lottery to win tickets to the YNPNNYC Holiday and 2020 Launch Party. We will contact the winners on Sunday night.
Shibani Gambhir, MPA: I will continue to ensure YNPN is representative of the community we serve. Bringing on smart, socially-minded leaders to share their expertise and further build on the impact we have. This includes Board Members, Workshop Trainers, and Partners.
My goal is to offer workshops/trainings every other month that will benefit leaders in the social good space. Additionally, I would like to build on the partnerships we have already created to offer innovative programming and spaces for our members and friends of members. I am excited for 2020 and this new decade.
Carlos Rosales: 2020 is going to be an important year on many issues impacting every single person in New York City as well as our country. In many ways that means our community of leaders and changemakers who work tirelessly to support, advocate, and provide for the larger New York community will continue to rise to the challenges faced in 2020. So when I think about how to build a supportive community, I think about providing opportunities to take care of yourself as well as we seek to take care of communities we serve. I think about creating space for other people to be leaders in action so their voices can also be heard. I think about working to strengthening my personal leadership but also support current and future pathways for new leaders to emerge. My commitment to YNPN-NYC for 2020 is to create an environment where both our community, leaders, and changemakers can flourish today and in the future to come.
Christiaan Perez: I am looking for ways to fix systems that include greater accountability and transparency between individuals that allow for people to work beyond their projects and more easily see what others are working on. There are multiple issues that I am looking at but one I want to lift up is the idea of building more collaborative space outside of our specific areas of focus. i.e. Communications working with programming or development working with social workers. By collaborating outside of our comfort zone, we can find innovative ways to approach challenges that many face within their specialization. I hope that over time we can build a collaborative space where we can have those conversations in the YNPNNYC network and beyond.
Chloe Halpin: In 2020, my focus for supporting the YNPNNYC network will be to build on the strong foundations already in place by developing the depth and diversity of our program offering for our members. YNPN has a central role to play in bringing together the future leaders of the non-profit sector in New York, including those who are new to the industry, the city, are at the start of their careers or are further advanced. Engaging programming will help to develop skills, create networks, share information, and advance our collective impact.
Anastasija Ocheretina: Interns are such a vital source of support in many non-profit organizations and I have been reflecting on the invaluable assistance interns provided to me and my colleagues in my non-profit career so far. In 2020, I want to be more intentional about not only ensuring that internships at my organization are valuable experiences for young people, but also to be an active resource to former interns and do what I can to invest in the next generation of young non-profit professionals!
Gail Goldspiel: I am constantly looking to inspire, educate, connect and engage. As an outside-of the-classroom educator (I work in the museum field,) my goals both professionally and personally are to find innovative ways to foster life-long learning, curiosity, and creativity at any age, child or adult. If I can inspire even a few non-profit professionals to feel welcomed, connected and inspired as well as unlock new opportunities for them, I will be kicking off 2020 with a big smile and great motivation. I truly believe that we are all here together working to make a difference, and by serving on the YNPN board and working as a professional in education, I am one small link in the great chain of innovation, change, and social impact. Here’s to 2020!
Zack Travers: I am working to make sure YNPN is a place where young nonprofit professionals can come to learn and develop new skills, flex and hone old ones, and make long-lasting connections with people across the social impact industry. This includes providing affordable and accessible professional development and networking opportunities, as well as ensuring our spaces are welcoming and empowering for all to attend.
