2006 Membership Survey
The 2006 YNPN Survey is now on-line! Please take
a few minutes to fill the survey at www.surveymonkey.com.
The results of the survey will
provide a snapshot of our members allowing us to better plan programs that fits your needs.
In 2005, you told us that you were interested in programs in management/leadership and public speaking. We planned and held programs on both of these topics during the course of the last year. You also told us that a program on managing your personal finances as a nonprofit employee would be helpful; we’re happy to report that this program is currently being planned and will be held in late 2006.
When we close the survey in a few weeks, YNPN-NYC Advisory Board members will carefully review all responses. We will then send you the results and post them on our website, so that you too can learn more about your fellow YNPN-NYC members.
Welcome New Advisory Board Members
YNPN-NYC welcomes two new members to our Advisory
Board. Alexandra Schuppert is our new Social Programs Chair and Michelle
Phelps will serve as the YNPN-NYC Development Chair.
Alexandra comes to us with 9 years of experience working in children & family services and youth development, and holds an MBA in non-profit management. Most recently she was the Director of the Quality of Life Program at Working in Support of Education in New York City, overseeing all aspects of a citywide education program and scholarship competition. As the Social Programs Chair, Alexandra will be planning and executing social and networking events to bring together YNPN-NYC members.
Michelle is currently a development associate at the Center for Court
Innovation, a public-private partnership between the New York State
Court System and the Fund for the City of New York, where she is responsible
for identifying funding opportunities, helping project directors plan
new programs, writing grant proposals, and maintaining relationships
with current funders. As Development Chair, Michelle will be developing
and implementing fundraising strategies for YNPN-NYC.

Before Demos, you were a Community Organizer for Coalition for the Homeless (CFTH), what was that experience like?

NEWS & RESOURCES YOU CAN USE
In a recent article, the Stanford Social
Innovation Review looked into "What Business Executives Don't Know-But
Should-About Nonprofits." As business leaders are often involved in
nonprofits, either as donors, partners, board members, or in career
transitions, the non-profit sector operates much differently than for-profits.
They should understand that non-profits are difficult to lead because
there are many stakeholders. Unlike the business world, successes are
often difficult to measure in non-profits because it is often about
measuring intangibles like social thought. Non-profits usually have
vastly smaller resources than the for-profit world, making the hiring
and retention of qualified leaders difficult. Read the full
