Welcome new Advisory Board Member, Andy Felder
Congratulations to Andy Felder, who has been appointed the YNPN-NYC External Affairs Chair. As External Affairs Chair, Andy will develop and implement a strategy for cultivating new collaborations and partnerships as well as strengthening existing ones for YNPN-NYC. He will also be working to identify new audiences in order to increase the organization’s profile in NYC. Andy is the Development Assistant at the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction.
Openings on YNPN Adivsory Board
There are currently still two positions open on the YNPN-NYC Advisory Board:
The Social Programs Chair is responsible for organizing YNPN-NYC’s annual social/networking events calendar, through which
YNPN-NYC provides a forum for young professionals in the nonprofit sector to make valuable connections. In coordination with the
Professional Development Programs Chair, the Social Programs Chair will plan and implement regular social/networking programs
in diverse settings that create opportunities for young nonprofit professionals to meet each other, network, and grow
professionally through shared experiences.
The Development Chair is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies that will secure
revenue for YNPN-NYC’s work. He or she will lead the process of determining the appropriate mix of income
streams needed to implement YNPN-NYC's activities, and will work with the External Co-Chair to manage YNPN-NYC's efforts
to identify and solicit new funders and sources of revenue for YNPN-NYC.
The YNPN-NYC Advisory Board is entirely volunteer-run, and all Board positions require 10-12 hours minimum
per month. You must be available to travel to New York City meetings and events and must have regular Internet
access for email-based communication.
To apply for either of these two positions, please email a cover letter and resume to info@ynpnnyc.org by
June 28, 2006, and use either "Social Programs Chair" or "Development Chair" as the subject line. The new
Board members will take office in July 2006. If you have questions, please email info@ynpnnyc.org, and you
will receive a prompt reply.

YNPN-NYC MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: ELIZABETH BARONE
Elizabeth Barone, Executive Associate Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
This month's YNPN Spotlighter puts things in perspective from a lively and candid point of view.
Congratulations Elizabeth for being May’s Spotlight of the Month! Can you share your background, your organization and your role at the organization?
Thank you! I will start with the organization, and work backward on this question because I don’t think that my background provides the most self-evident link to where I am today. I work for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the US office (MSF USA), which is based in New York. MSF is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides emergency medical relief in situations of conflict, displacement, epidemic and natural or human-made disasters.

Now you are an Executive Associate, which differs a bit from an Executive Assistant. How so?
The distinction between associate and assistant is in part HR lingo, but that lingo is designed to indicate a level of responsibility.
